Amateur boxing medical and eligibility basics for UK clubs
Safety-critical rules come from your governing body and medical officers — not from BoutMatrix. This page explains why clubs track medical and review status when searching for opponents, so matchmaking stays responsible.
Why medical status belongs in matchmaking
A bout that looks perfect on age and weight is still unsuitable if a boxer is not cleared to compete. Clubs that hide or ignore medical expiry create risk for athletes and for the reputation of amateur boxing.
What BoutMatrix surfaces
Your own club can track full medical expiry and review dates for duty of care. In cross-club matchmaking, BoutMatrix only shows coarse status (Medical In Date / Not In Date, and review Up to date / Review required) so other clubs do not receive another club’s exact medical dates or internal identifiers. Those signals support club decisions; they do not certify a boxer for competition.
Coach checklist before you contact another club
- Confirm your boxer’s medical/review status under your club process
- Do not offer boxers you know are ineligible
- Ask the other club to confirm their boxer is ready to compete
- Pause matching if either side is unsure — find another option
Juniors and safeguarding
For under-16 boxers, BoutMatrix requires parent/guardian consent before matchmaking and keeps guardian contacts private to the owning club. Name privacy can show initials only to other clubs. Follow your club safeguarding lead and association rules before travel or competition — matchmaking tools support those checks; they never replace them.
